Another great source for RC airplane plans and model rc airplane

I've spoken here a bit about a new plane we added to the family called the Griffin. It looks like there are a couple other sites that offer the griffin. One of the sites is called RC-Airplane-Plans.com. They have the same RC Airplane Plans which I have discussed in previous posts. It looks like another great source for beginners to learn to build their own RC airplane. Also, the same Model RC Airplane seen in the image below can be found at Model-RC-Airplane.com. I'm glad to see these additional sources promoting this plane that has been so much fun for us lately.

New RC Airplane Plans on the Horizon...

We have been having a blast flying our most recent addition to the flight wing. This "Griffin" from EZRCAirplane.com was super easy to build and the video went through every step. Both the RC Airplane Plans and the Airplane Building Tutorial Video are available on their website. We have been doing loops, rolls, and even thermaled it to nearly "out-of-sight" recently. It can be super relaxing just to putter around silently, or you can add throttle to really ring it out. When flying inverted, we noticed a little wing wobble, so a carbon rod added to the wing root in the middle section might prove helpful here if you simply must fly inverted. My 11-yr old now wants to build "her own" so she can decorate it to her liking. My 15-yr old is also building himself a Griffin this weekend. With the other R/C flyers in the neighborhood joining in, we will soon be able to fill the sky at our flying field.

A Voice Of Experience About RC Airplanes

I have been flying R/C airplanes since 1981. Like nearly all others of my vintage I started out with 40-size “gas” planes. It took a minimum of 80+ hours of build time to complete a basic “trainer” kit out of balsa, with monokote covering. The cost was many hundreds more that the R/C entry cost today, and the number of those who successfully learned to fly was limited to the lucky few who had an experienced trainer that used a buddy-cord between 2 transmitters, and who was blessed with vast patience.

After gaining some experience I and many of my flyin’ buddies longed to have a plane that had unlimited vertical capabilities. Without significant resources and time it was a ridiculously hard target to reach. I never really made it there until in 2003 when I was introduced to the joys of hassle-free, quiet and economic electric flight. Man what a breath of fresh air! No more grundles of ancillary equipment, messy & expensive fuel, & driving hours to a suitable flying site, etc…

Now, 5-years later, nearly every plane I build has this kind of vertical capability, thanks to new technology, brushless motors, and lithium polymer 20C+ batteries. I have recently completed my 58th foam plane build, and I have a friend that has easily doubled that number. Now within just a few hours, you can complete whatever design you wish to dabble with, and they nearly all fly successfully. My kids and I have had a blast over the years enjoying this fun activity.

I live across from a large open grass playing field next to a school, and it has been an ideal location for flying. I can hardly tell you how many people see us flying and stop to find out how to get into this hobby. I had previously handed out a spreadsheet with a list of web sites, building materials, and costs to pass out, and have helped a number of them build their first foam planes. Now I just refer them to EZRCAriplane.com. Click here to see their RC Airplanes.

They sell one of the very best “beginner” designs I’ve ever seen. I have recently completed their “Griffin”. What a great value! The video was very well done and showed the entire build process from A to Z, and the plans were spot-on. It took me only a couple of evenings to complete this plane and it was one of the very easiest builds imaginable. The results were outstanding! The Griffin flys great and now logs more flight time that any of my other foamys. My 11-year old daughter enjoys flying it also. I introduced it to a neighbor who is a retired United Airlines pilot, and now he is completing his order.

I don’t think any design could be easier to build and learn to fly than this Griffin. Go check out their website.
